Innovative product design

The curriculum at the BoP Academy relies on innovate concepts of product design to build quality into the academic delivery. But how do you achieve quality at a school fee of less than a 200 rupees a month? Innovation in curriculum design is the answer.

Learning is for life

For education to be relevant it has to remain contextual to the learner as well as to the surroundings. For the BoP child, a school leaving certificate is simply not enough, which is why we have designed our curriculum with a keen eye on employ-ability - one that integrates with vocational skills and training from the early stages of grades six and seven itself.

Beyond the three Rs

To face the challenges of a world that changes every day, a child needs confidence, creativity and the ability to solve problems. Much more than English and Mathematics, building knowledge from information becomes important. A fact validated by international research in learning methods is that children learn best when they are active and playing. This is the Play Way Method, which we have adopted as the mode of delivery at the BoP Academy - explaining complex things in the simplest possible way and making tough concepts simpler to understand.

Learning by Doing

Our curriculum puts the child at the centre of learning. The child-centric approach prioritizes participation from children and encourages mentors and parents to work 'together' with children rather than 'for' them. Each child is given the space and freedom to build knowledge. Each child is encouraged to ask questions and derive enjoyment in understanding. This is Learning by Doing.

Our curriculum

The BoP curriculum is derived from the National Curriculum Framework - the guiding document for reforms in Indian education. It focuses on encouraging each child to find the inherent uniqueness within and is based on a three-pronged philosophy that takes the phases of a child's learning by age, into consideration. These learning phases are:
  1. Ananda - "learning through enjoyment", grades I and II
  2. Jigyasa - "discovery through experimentation" from grades III through VIII
  3. Sadhana - "practicing to perfection" in high school and beyond

The curriculum is a progressive one that works in the context of each individual child. It's child-centric approach builds and strengthens overall socio-emotional skills and ensures the highest quality of mentoring. It is one where music, art, crafts and drama are not extra-curricular, but are built into the very fabric of academic delivery.

The BoP curriculum is adaptable to India's geographical and cultural diversities while ensuring a common set of values along with academic components.

The role of the mentor

We strive to groom child-friendly teachers who make the shift from 'gurus' to facilitators, mentors and most importantly - learners themselves. Our mentors do not 'teach', they simply facilitate the learning process by helping to identify the the strengths and talents of the child. These strengths are then nurtured to help children realize their potential.

Technology-enabled curriculum

We use technology as a platform for learning. With an eye on scale, it constitutes a large part of our day to day processes. It is aimed towards efficient administration, enhancing the quality of academic delivery by stimulating the learner's interest, and as a communication tool for mentors. Our schools are Internet-enabled and equipped with laptops but our emphasis is on the appropriate use of technology.
