Bhagat goes to the Indus Academy at Bhongir in Nagonda District. Since he was nine months his parents noticed that he wasn't responding to any sounds. His concerned father krishna, being a news reporter for the local news channel took him to known doctors, where Bhagat was declared hearing impaired. Now at the age of four he still communicates with the gestures and is slow to respond to instructions. In this situation none of the local schools were willing to promise Krishna an admission for his son. Most of them asked him to wait for a couple of years. But the doctors advised Krishna to get Bhagat enrolled in a school that could provide him with the individual attention and care required to help him recover quickly.
Krishna's friend Ravinder, who is local cable TV operator advertised Indus Academy on his channel, referred him to to Indus. He believed that the child friendly activities over here would help to improve Bhagat's condition.
When Bhagat first came to Indus, he would not mingle with the other children. Now a month into the school, Krishna says that Bhagat has begun to respond to instructions at home and has also started identifying animals, fruits and alphabets.
Bhagat tries to speak using three or four words. This makes Krishna and his family members happy. Though it is a very small step, for Bhagat parents it is quite big. "We waited two years to see this change and it has finally happened at Indus Academy", says Krishna.
Bhagya Rekha, an Indus coordinator and also nursery children mentor says that within a few days everyone forgot about Bhagat's disability. Bhagat soon started socialization and associating himself with his peers. He now participates in all activities and communicates very well with other children - something they understand perfectly well.
Krishna is a believer of the techniques used for listening and speaking for nursery children. He says, "For Bhagat, Indus is a secure place and I appreciate the mentors for showing so much affection towards children."
